So, I was watching a movie on Netflix's Watch Instantly last night. A German movie called "Cherry Blossoms" which turned out to be only mediocre at best, but I digress. Close to the beginning, there's a scene where a woman is trying to vacuum the floor and her kids roll away from her to get out of the way. I had to rewind and do a double take. Do you see what I see?
I do believe those are Opal Lollipop socks!
There has been no sock knitting here. About the only knitting I have done is lowly dishcloths. I gave a few away and now I have requests for more. I have had a bitch of a time finding yarn here, though. Hobby Lobby's selection is boring and the local Wal Marts have completely taken their fabric departments out. We randomly stopped at a Wal Mart in Burleson, TX on the way back to Houston and they had a fully stocked larder, so I came out with a bagful. I know I can order it online, but it was a nice surprise to run across it. My dishcloth of choice is a mitered square in garter stitch. Cast on 75. Great mindless car knitting.
Lately, I've been entertaining the thought of making a skirt. I tried one on at Macy's last weekend, but I didn't buy it. I was browsing free skirt patterns online and ran across this one and really liked it. I haven't downloaded it. I made quite a few garments for Daughter-the-Younger, but usually when I try to make something for myself, I am sick to death of it before it is finished.
It's hard to believe that it's been nine months since I've posted a blog here. I'd like to say that time flies when you are having fun, but you all know that time just flies whether you are enjoying it or not. The business my hubby and I bought is still in business, although with the bigger printers in town now vying for smaller jobs, our workload has also shrunk. We have let one employee go and dropped everyone else back to 32 hours a week. I was working part time there, but since Howdy also took a pay cut, I had to go back to full time at my other job, so I am squeezing the bookkeeping in at the shop at lunch and before and after work. I spent a lot of time gardening this spring, but with this intense heat, most of my flower bed is withering. A bright spot in the spring was when Daughter-the-Older graduated from Texas Tech this spring and miraculously found a job!
So, that's all the news from this front, but it is Saturday and I have a literal mountain of laundry to do today and really need to go and find a pair of shoes to wear to a banquet later this summer. Sigh, everything seems so mundane here most of the time. And this blog entry is becoming so as well. Have a great weekend!
Those are definitely Opal socks! Good eye, good eye. Isn't Burdastyle
great? I'm just coming back to sewing and I've been all over that site
getting ideas. It's brilliant.
Glad to have you back after so long. We worry about you. Congrats to the
eldest daughter on graduation and a job. Both are major accomplishments in
this economic climate.
It's good to hear from you. You are not alone, although I don't know if
that's much comfort to you. I"m down to 32 hours a week, too, but am
grateful for the job.
delighted to have you blogging again. the dishcloth maybe lowly, but that
lowly is by the way of a foundation for everything else. just yesterday i
was staggered by the postage cost of getting colors of washrag cotton that
i want rather than what is on the shelf. i'm lucky there is some at my
local S-mart but i want brown !
It's nice to see you back! But darn this lousy economy.
It is so wonderful to have news of you, you have been missed. Sending big
hugs to you and yours.
Glad to hear from you - spotting those socks is exactly the kind of thing I
would do as well!
Well hi!! Must be fate...I haven't checked my bloglines in about the same
length of time that you haven't blogged. It's good to hear from you, and
glad things are going OK!
Cool sock sighting!
A woman in my knitting group knits mainly dishcloths (but is slowly
branching out and just knit her first pair of socks- it was supposed to be
for her but fits her young daughter and she now understands what gauge
means!). She found a ball of 100% cotton at Hobby Lobby called "I Love This
Yarn" and it is some of the softest cotton I have ever felt. She said it
comes in a pretty good range of colors so I may have to venture in to
investigate.
Hi,
I found your pattern for the lacy scallop socks on ravelry, and I made a
baby version. Before sharing it, I first wanted and show you the pattern
since it is based on yours. This is a great pattern I had a lot of fun
knitting it up.
